Book Summary
Are you listening for God?
Jeremiah 29:11-12
11 For I
know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for
welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then
you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
For
all of us there needs to come a time when we take our hands off the
wheel and give it to Jesus. The trick is not to take the wheel when
things get better. When you come to that place, you might be ready to
listen to God. If you cannot do that, then it is pointless for God to
speak to you. You cannot serve two masters, and if you place yourself on
the throne of your life, than there is no room for God. He will prod
you, wait for you, and if necessary knock you on your butt (like He did
to me in 2016) to get you to listen.
The Hebrew word for listen
is Shema. It is a complex word that means a lot more than to simply
hear. It means to listen with the intent of obeying the one speaking to
you. God needs you to get to the place where you are ready to listen and
obey Him. Then He can start to accomplish His will through your life.
In fact, He wants you to become a ‘first time listener’ and for you to
patiently wait for Him to give you the next step of His plan for you.
Read the first chapter of Joshua and listen to the tone God uses when He
has to remind Joshua that He will be with Him. God does not like having
to repeat Himself. Listen with the intent of obeying.
It is my
hope that this book will encourage you to listen for God’s voice in the
many diverse ways in which He can speak to you. I am using the stories
of my life to demonstrate just some of the ways that He has spoken to
me. I share what happened when I listened and also when I did not. God
is a gentleman and will not violate your free will. He gave it to you
and respects your free will. That being said, His plans for you are far
greater than your plans. I share that throughout this book, but the
section starting in 2016 is the pinnacle of God intervening and leading
me to a new season of life. He wants to speak to you and lead you to
your new season of life. Are you ready?
